U.S. computer pioneer and co-founder of Apple Inc., is credited as the driving force behind significant products that emphasize functionality, ease of use, and elegant design in the computer and music industries. Steven Paul Jobs was born on February 24, 1955. His biological mother, Joanne Carole Schieble, was a young college student in San Francisco who was not yet ready for parenthood. Steve was adopted by Paul Jobs, a machinist and car salesman, and his wife Clara. Steve showed an early and keen interest in electronics, though he was less interested in school. While in high school, he took a summer job at Hewlett-Packard, There, he met Stephen Wozniak, an engineer. In 1976, Jobs and Wozniak founded Apple Computer. In 1977, Apple introduced the Apple II, a successful home and small-business computer. In 1984, Apple introduced the popular Macintosh personal computer.  It was during the early 1980’s that Jobs was first to see the commercial potential of the mouse-driven graphical user interface. After a power struggle with Apple’s board of directors, Jobs left the company in 1985 and started NeXT Inc. He returned to Apple when Apple bought NeXT in 1997 and soon became CEO, a position he retains. Under his renewed leadership, Apple introduced the iMac computer and iPod music player. Jobs owned the Pixar Animation Studios from 1986 until 2006, when such classics as Toy Story (1995), A Bug's Life (1998), Toy Story 2 (1999), Monsters, Inc. (2001), Finding Nemo (2003), and The Incredibles (2004) were produced.  One of the most sought after men in Hollywood, Jobs sold Pixar to The Walt Disney Company in 2006, where he sits on the Board of Directors. Jobs has received numerous awards and accolades. In 1985, he and Wozniak were awarded the National Medal of Technology, the first to receive this honor. He was named the most powerful person and CEO of the first decade of the 21st Century by Fortune Magazine, the most admired entrepreneur among teenagers in a Junior Achievement survey, and is ranked #57 on Forbes World’s Most Powerful People listing.
